The mother of legendary rapper Tupac Shakur, Afeni Shakur has died at the age of 69. According to the report, police responded to a call at her home in California. The sheriff’s office suspect that she might have been the victim of cardiac arrest.
Shakur, who was born Alice Faye Williams in 1947, moved her family to New York where she joined the Black Panther movement and subsequently changed her name. In 1969, she and other members of the Black Panthers were arrested for allegedly planning to bomb police stations, department stores and the Botanical Gardens. They were acquitted in 1971.
In that same year, she gave birth to Lesane Parish Crooks, better known to the world as Tupac Shakur. He would later go on to honour his mother in the classic hit single, “Dear Mama”.
